5 Tips to Solve Relationship Problems and Save Your Relationship
Your fairytale love story suddenly turned into your worst nightmare. You suddenly have that urge to wake up and ask yourself, where did the love go? What happened to the promises? Why are you arguing over everything all of a sudden? Here are some helpful tips to cease your relationship problems and save your relationship in the process.
Tip #1: It is not degrading to say you’re sorry.
No one is perfect – every now and then you may deliberately hurt your partner’s feelings. You may say hurtful words in the peak of an argument that you instantly regret, so swallow your pride slowly, and apologize. At the same time, you should also expect a heartfelt apology from you partner if he or she had hurt you in any way.
Your friends or your parent’s relationship may have abused each other and where never sorry for it, be different! Feel free in your relationship by admitting that you were wrong. Value your partner and never let your relationship have an unhappy ending.
Tip #2 Don’t tally your “wins” and “losses” in your negotiations.
This is one of the biggest errors that most couples make. One should not keep track of victories and losses in an argument as if you’re in a competition. Granting that it is normal for a relationship to have arguments and one of you may have the last word – but keeping a score board becomes the most important factor in resolving a dispute, rather than the need to figure out the real problem on its own merit. Giving in for some meant that he or she is somehow “weak” and losing control of the relationship. But not doing sometimes can drive a wedge in your relationship and can make your partner love you less.
Compromise is never a sign of personal weakness. It is just ok to ‘give in’ to your partner and let him or her win the argument. Although this can be a hard thing to do, just challenge yourself to wipe the slate clean before you attempt a new relationship issue. if your pride can’t take ‘loosing’ the argument, then you may have just cause irreversible harm in your relationship.
Tip # 3 There is the right time and place for fights.
Find a comfortable, quiet and private place to work on your problems. No one needs to know or to hear your lamentations regarding the wrong he or she had done this time. Discuss the problem the moment that it arises. The longer you allow your partner to get away with a mistake it will be harder to get them to stop. Be sure that you have enough time to discuss your problem, don’t start fretting if the both of you are off to work or about to sleep, the discussion will just be unproductive.
Tip # 4 Watch your words.
Words when they slipped out of your mouth can never be taken back. Although you may be on the right side, you still would not be saved if your communication method is not effective. It will not be to your advantage if you put your partner in the defensive position because you start accusing him or her. When a person is being attacked, it is their natural defense mechanism to fight back or retreat, either way, the problem will not be rationally solved.
Tip # 5 Take one issue at a time.
It is easier to solve your problems if you deal with it one at a time. It is quite difficult to analyze and solve more than one issue at a time, which is why problem solving often fails miserably. Be vigilant, though, that your partner may try to shift the discussion to another topic when things start to get heated and the finger is pointer to his or her direction. Every time you catch your partner avoiding the current topic, gently ask him or her to get back to the former topic and promise to deal with the other topic some other time.
