In its firs t season as title sponsor of the CC Evesham Elite Cycling Team, Heart House/CADV became a double state champion sponsor in late August. In June the team scored a surprise victory when Ryan Petit was dropped off by Pete Fitzpatrick with 125 meters to the finish line of the NJ State Road Race. Petit easily won the sprint for the victory, even having time to zip up his team jersey. Petit later returned the favor at the NJ Senior Men's 1/2/3 Criterium Championship dropping off Fitzpatrick with around 100 meters to go. Fitzpatrick used his track racing speed to win his first NJ Senior Men's Title. This is the first time in several years where one team has won both the road race and criterium titles in the same year. |

Having ridden for others throughout the year, Pete Fitzpatrick got to stand in the spotlight after the Senior Men's 1/2/3 Criterium Championships on a sunny Sunday afternoon in late August. Fitzpatrick has been an important part of the team's overall success. In June's senior men's road race, he dropped of Ryan Petit 150 meters from the line for his dramatic NJ State victory. Pete has given up his personal ambitions several times for the good of the team. The whole team gave 100% to therir tactical plan to win the race. Mike Jenks was the first rider to represent the team by placing himself in the first serious breakaway. That breakaway never gained more than a minute though. Mike orders were to only rotate through, but not work too much. After around 18 laps of being away the breakaway was finally brought back and the following laps included several attacks from Northeastern Hardware, Metra Industries-Wendys, The team had great coverage in all of the these attacks from Todd Kruger, Matt Kupsky, George Bicking, and Jason Urbanczyk. This enabled our two sprinters to basically sit in the field and conserve there energy for the later portion of the race. Just past the midway part of the race a small group of riders rolled off the front of the field, the team was able to place Jason Urbanczyk in the move to represent the team. This group worked hard and built a maximum lead of 50 seconds with less than 25 laps remaining in the race. With around 20 laps remaining another small group of 4 riders attacked and Ryan Petit covered the move for the team. Those 4 riders slowly crossed the gap giving the team two riders in the breakaway. At this point Jason Urbanczyk slayed himself, while Ryan Petit sat on being one of the team sprinters for the day. Back in the main field Matt Kupsky, George Bicking, Todd Kruger and Mike Jenks each rode a fantastic race by taking turns covering attacks from other teams. George was especially impressive after having already ridden the Senior Men's cat 3 event earlier in the day where he placed 10th. The breakaway's lead hovered around 25 seconds with less than 10 laps to go. With 4 laps to go the breakaway was finally absorbed by the main field and several riders attempted to take flyers looking to catch the field sleeping after having brought back the breakaway. With the entire filed again together, all of the guys made sure to take Pete Fitzpatrick to the front of the group to keep him out of danger. The entire team rode a great tactical race leaving Pete to pretty much rest the entire day with little time in the wind. Ryan Petit made a great effort to lead Pete out and dropped him off around 100 meters from the finish line. Pete was able to use his track speed to come out of the field and win his first New Jersey State Championship. Ryan Petit also finished off the day with a solid 5th place to cap off a solid day of team racing. |
